YOUNG ADULTS

— YOUNG ADULTS GROUP

Over the last few years, our Cathedral community has had the opportunity to offerpastoral support and sacramental preparation to quite a sizeable number of adults and young adults, who wished to be baptised and confirmed.

Towards the end of last year, the number of young adults (loosely defined as age 18-35) became more visible in the Cathedral, not only as members of the choir and liturgical teams, but also as members of the wider congregation.

Over the summer, Cathedral Precentor, Fr Ivica, held a conversation with some of them and the idea to hold a young adults group in the Cathedral was born. “It is a heart-warming and joyful event in the life of the Cathedral”, says Fr Ivica. “This is not something that anybody could force into existence. It seems the time just became ripe for our young people to come together and form this group. The presence of young adults in our community is a testimony to the inclusive nature of the Cathedral and especially its youth component; it is a wonderful celebration of the Cathedral’s liturgical life, as many of the young adults are members of the choir or serve as acolytes. Liturgy is a great force for Christian formation – worshipping in our tradition informs how we live our Christian lives.”

The group meet regularly after Sunday Eucharist on the second Sunday of the month.

— OPEN4EM

Open4EM is a group formed in 2010 which continues to have strong support and well attended meetings.

The group meets regularly on the second Monday of the month (7pm - 8.30pm) in the Bishop Monteith Visitors’ Centre. The evening begins with refreshments and socialisation followed by more formal proceedings starting at 7:30pm.

As the name implies, the group is an ‘open forum’ with wide-ranging study topics led by invited speakers who present informative and often challenging information. The meeting agenda can include a book of the Bible, last Sunday's sermon, church history, a current topical issue, or theological reflection. The agenda is wide and engaging. New members are always welcome.

A member comments...'Thank you Margaret and Mariana (the convenors of Open4EM) for some very interesting Monday evenings this year at the Cathedral. ….. Open 4EM has developed some good friendships.”

VIRIDITAS with Reverend Carolin Telford

7pm Mondays 4, 11, 18, 25 November
Holy Trinity Cathedral

If we fall in love with creation deeper and deeper, we shall
respond to its endangerment with passion. We shall awaken from our dullness and rise vigorously toward justice.

These words sound very contemporary and relevant to our struggles to confront the climate crisis. They were written by the German Abbess, composer, philosopher, and mystic Hildegard of Bingen, who lived in the twelfth century. Hildegard coined the term ‘Viriditas’, by which she meant ‘God’s living power of light in Creation.’

As we prepare for Advent we will gather over four sessions to explore what ‘God’s living power of light in Creation’ might imply for us. Join us as we consider how we might tend to fresh green shoots emerging in our journey of faith as we seek to follow that light.

These four session led by Reverend Carolin Telford, will explore the theme of Viriditas in the contexts of the light-filled Cathedral Nave with its abundance of stained-glass windows.
